CVC champion Sequoias, Reedley, Fresno City, Porterville all in for NorCal Playoffs

Conference champion College of the Sequoias heads a list of four Central Valley teams to earn spots in the upcoming 2019 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Northern California Regional Playoffs. COS is joined by Reedley College, Fresno City College, and Porterville College in the postseason.

The four squads will compete in a best-of-three game series in the first round. The opening game of the playoff series is set for Friday (May 3) with Game 2 and Game 3 (if necessary) scheduled for Saturday (May 4).

Sequoias earned the No. 10 seed and will travel to face No. 7 Foothill College in its postseason match up. COS compiled an impressive 19-2 record in Central Valley Conference play and enters the playoffs with a 26-13 overall record. Sequoias has won eight of its last nine games and is 12-8 on the road this season.

Foothill is 29-6 overall this season and finished second in the Coast Conference North Division with an 8-6 mark.

With a 31-9 overall record and the highest RPI in the conference, Reedley received the CVC's top seed at No. 9 and will also hit the road to take on No. 8 Cabrillo College. Reedley was second in the final conference standings at 17-4 and goes into the playoffs winning eight of its last 11 games.

Cabrillo is 24-13 overall and was third in Coast Conference South Division at 9-6.

Fresno City is the tournament's No. 12 seed and travels to face No. 5 Sierra College in its playoff series. The Rams finished third in the CVC standings with a 14-7 record and are 22-17 overall as they head into the playoffs. FCC went 8-5 in April and is on a three-game winning streak.

Sierra finished third in the Big 8 Conference at 15-6 and brings an impressive 31-9 overall record to the postseason.

Rounding out CVC teams in the playoffs is Porterville at the No. 14 spot. The Pirates will play at No. 3 San Joaquin Delta College in their opening-round series. Porterville is making its first playoff appearance in over 20 years and finished fourth in the Central Valley Conference at 12-9. Porterville is 24-14 overall and has slugged the third-most home runs in the state with 32.

San Joaquin Delta is 32-5 this season and was co-champions of the Big 8 Conference with a 19-2 record. Delta enters the postseason riding a six-game winning streak.

The winners of the best two-out-of-three series advance to Round 2 of the Northern California Regional Playoffs on May 10. Teams are battling for a spot in the CCCAA State Championship, set for May 16-19 in Bakersfield.
