Conference champion Merced College (23-5) has earned the CVC’s top seed at No. 5 for the upcoming Northern California Regional Playoffs. The Blue Devils will be joined in the postseason by Sequoias (19-9, No. 11 seed), and Fresno City (16-11, No. 15 seed).
With a perfect 9-0 record, Merced is surging towards its third straight CVC championship. The Blue Devils have won 10 straight with just three left to play.
With identical 11-5 overall records, Merced and Sequoias once again appear to be the teams to beat as Central Valley Conference play gets underway this week.
The CVC will be represented by four teams in the regional playoffs. Merced (26-3) earned the conference’s top seed at No. 2. Co-champion Sequoias was named the No. 4 seed, Fresno City (18-11) checks in at No. 12, and Reedley (15-12) avoids a play-in game as a No. 14 seed.
Approaching the midway point of the CVC schedule, Merced leads the conference standings at 5-0. The Blue Devils are currently riding a 15-game winning streak, including a decisive 90-70 victory over Sequoias in a first-place battle.
