Tough stretch continues for Falcons after dropping opening CVC matches

COALINGA – The West Hills College Coalinga women's volleyball team came out on the losing end of a back-and-forth battle as the Falcons suffered a 3-2 Central Valley Conference loss to visiting Porterville College on Friday. That was preceded by a 3-0 loss at Taft College in their conference opener on Wednesday.

West Hills and Porterville split the first four sets before the Pirates took the fifth and the match. Set scores were 18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 15-11.

Sarah Toles totaled a season-high 14 kills to lead the Falcons on offense. Sariya Harris added 10 kills and 7 digs while Arelis Chavez-Hernandez chipped in with 9 kills.

Alexia Vancil paced WHCC with 22 assists to go with 7 digs and Bailee Costa had a team-high 24 digs and 3 aces.

The Falcons had a tougher time on offense in the 25-18, 25-15, 25-8 loss at Taft. The squad had 18 kills but totaled 35 attack errors.

Lexie Canales led with 6 kills and 6 digs. Harris added 4 kills and 4 digs while Kalissa Ortega contributed 7 assists and 3 digs.

West Hills moved to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in Central Valley Conference play. The Falcons return to action next Friday (Sep. 23) when they travel to Columbia College for a 5 p.m. CVC match.
