Falcons pull out five-set victory for first win of 2022

COALINGA – It took three tries but the West Hills College Coalinga women's volleyball team now has one in the win column. But it wasn't easy.

The Falcons dropped the first two sets of their home opener on Friday against Cuesta College but rallied to win the final three for the marathon victory. West Hills took the match by scores of 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 17-15 to improve to 1-2 overall.

Madison Talavera led the Falcons on offense with 12 kills. She added three aces as part of 16 served up by West Hills.

Lexie Canales contributed nine kills and 13 digs while Arelis Chavez-Hernandez had seven kills.

Setter Alexia Vancil was solid in guiding the Falcons towards the win. She totaled 30 assists, 14 digs, and three aces. On defense, Bailee Costa had a team-high 24 digs while Evelyn Calderon posted 14 digs.

The Falcons return to action on September 14 when they open Central Valley Conference play with a 6 p.m. match at Taft College.
