Cats show power surge in 7th straight win

The Saddleback baseball team completed a two-game sweep against College of the Sequoias on Wednesday in Visalia.  The Bobcats hit a pair of home runs in winning their seventh straight game.

Saddleback took a big lead in the top half of the first inning when they scored five times before Sequoias had even stepped into the box.  The Bobcats sent 10 batters to the plate, collecting six hits in the inning.  At one point they had five straight batters reach base, with the big blow being a triple from Zachary Schwartzberg to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead.

Schwartzberg was not done, as he also hit a solo home run in the top half of the fifth inning to give Saddleback a 6-0 lead.  It was the first of two home runs for the Bobcats as Jordan Dissin hit a solo home run in the top half of the eighth inning for a 7-3 advantage.

Schwartzberg (pictured) finished 2-for-5 with three RBI in the game while Dissin was 3-for-5.  Another with a big day on offense was Tyler DeClusin, who finished 3-for-4 as Saddleback held a 13-9 advantage in total hits for the day.

Dylan Singh started on the mound and pitched through the sixth inning in improving to 6-1 on the season.  Singh spread around seven hits while allowing three earned-runs before turning the ball over to the bullpen.  Ryan Cullinane pitched the final three innings of the game in picking up his second save of the season.

The win improved Saddleback to 26-8 for the season and ran the current winning streak to seven games.  It is the longest winning streak of the season and the longest win streak for the program since winning nine straight games during the 2018 season.

Saddleback will return to Orange Empire Conference action next week when they have a three-game series with Golden West College.  The Bobcats and Rustlers will play at Golden West on Tuesday (2:00 PM), at Saddleback on Thursday (2:00 PM) and at Golden West on Saturday (12:00 PM).
