Mt. SAC Men's Soccer

(Cupertino, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team came into the final game of the 2019 season without a loss in 25 games.

Unfortunately, the only loss of the season for the Mounties came in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship game, as they were shutout by Fresno City College (FCC), 2-0.

In the last three years, Mt. SAC (22-1-3) is now 1-2 against the Rams in the state final four.  Mt. SAC defeated FCC in the 2016 championship, but lost to the Rams in 2017 state semifinals, where they went on to win the championship.

The only goal of the first half came in the 45th minute by the Rams. After a foul by the Mounties, a free kick made its way 25 yards over the Mt. SAC wall and into the lower left corner, for the 1-0 lead.

The second half was without a goal until the 79th minute, when the Rams put the game away. The shutout was a state-best 21st for Fresno City.

Mountie season highlights include a state-best 25 games without a loss, a nine-game winning streak to start the season and another seven consecutive wins later.

The top two goal scorers for the Mounties were sophomores Angel Santoyo and Gerardo Cazares with 17 and 16, respectively.

Sophomore keeper Alain Hernandez ended the season with 11 wins.
