Taft, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Baseball Team delivered a commanding 9-0 shutout victory over Taft College on Friday, February 7, marking their second win against the Cougies this season. With this decisive win, the Mounties improve to 5-3, while Taft drops to 3-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Mounties put the ball in play in the top of the second second inning when Joel Gutierrez ripped a two-RBI single, driving in Tyler Stull and Miguel Perez for a 2-0 lead. The offense kept rolling in the third when Noah Rodriguez doubled, and both Nick Mejia and Ty Thomas were hit by pitches, loading the bases. Taft's pitcher, Julian Orozco then walked Perez and Stull as the Mounties increased their lead to 4-0.

Things continued to go in Mt. SAC's favor in the top of the fourth as Sho Saegusa stepped into the circle for Taft. A base hit by Cole Nachreine paired with a bunt and stolen base from Rodriguez, put the Mounties in scoring position. Nachreine crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and Bryan Bradshaw's double brought in another, pushing the lead to 6-0.

Landon White added to the Mounties' dominance with a solo homer in the sixth inning, and Andrew Alva's double in the eighth capped off the scoring, sealing the 9-0 win and leaving Taft with no room for a comeback.
