West Hills opens CVC schedule with 1-0 win over Madera

LEMOORE – West Hills College Lemoore is 1-0 to begin Central Valley Conference play thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory over visiting Madera Community College on Tuesday.

Freshman Irene Zamora's second goal of the season in the 44th minute proved to be the game-winner. Brandi Valdez set up Zamora's shot inside the box and was credited with the assist.

Mariah Zuniga put up another impressive game in goal for the Golden Eagles. She posted her first shutout of the year and totaled 9 saves.

Madera is in its inaugural season competing in women's soccer and was playing in its first-ever Central Valley Conference game.

West Hills has won 2 of its last 3 games and is 2-3 overall. The Golden Eagles are back in action on Friday (Sep. 15) when they travel to Taft College for a 12:30 p.m. conference game.
