Cuesta Women's Basketball Claims Home Opener over Taft, 73-48

Cuesta Women's Basketball opened its 37th Conoco/Phillips Invitational with a solid victory over Taft, 73-48.  The Taft Cougars hung with the Cuesta Cougars for most of the first three quarters, but Cuesta held a solid double-digit lead after the third and sailed to victory with a dominant final quarter.  Cuesta routed Taft 21-10 in the final frame and posted a 25-point win on their fellow Cougars.  Freshmen Olivia Missler (Santa Margarita: Mission Prep-pict) and Meadow Ingle (Paso Robles HS- pict) led the Cougars to victory.  Missler netted a game-high 21 points, while also adding eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and a pair of blocked shots. Ingle boasted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as she dominated the paint.  The Cuesta Faithful also got to see promising performances from Freshmen Julia Carney (SLO HS) and Jadyn Young (Tulare).  Carney scored 14 points and collected six rebounds, while Young ended up just short of her own double-double with 11 points and eight boards.  

In the tournament other game, West Hills-Lemoore had its way with Hartnell in a 110-21 victory.  The Golden Eagles win sets up tomorrow's title game against Cuesta at 3 PM, while Taft and Hartnell battle it out for 3rd place at 1 PM.
