COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS WINS 2021 CVC CHAMPIONSHIP
With an impressive 20-4 record, Sequoias captured a well-deserved 2021 Central Valley Conference championship. The CVC title is the Giants' first since 2014 and fifth under long-time head coach Jody Allen. COS was dominant all season, beating out second-place Merced by six games. The Giants' 23 overall wins tied for the most in the state this season. Their team batting average of .360 also led the state while they ranked second in runs (276) and runs per game (9.9). Congrats to COS and all teams that were able to compete in such difficult circumstances this season.

REEDLEY'S BJ VELA LEADS STATE IN HITTING
Reedley freshman BJ Vela put together an impressive first season for the Tigers, as he led the state in hitting with an amazing .481 batting average. Vela was also the state leader with 47 runs. He ranked second state-wide in hits (51) and RBI (37), as well as third in on base percentage (.560). His .821 slugging percentage, 7 home runs, and 11 doubles were also among the state's top five.

COS sophomore Andrew Valdez also put up big numbers, tying for the state lead with 10 home runs while hitting .415 with 49 hits, 32 RBI, a .493 on base percentage, and .780 slugging percentage.

From the mound, Merced starting pitcher Kody Cardoza had a standout year. In 8 starts, he went 5-1 with a pair of complete games as well as two saves out of the bullpen. He totaled 54 strikeouts over 53 innings.
