Sequoias men, Clovis women win 2019 CVC Cross Country championships

Led by individual men's champion Ismael Ramirez, College of the Sequoias totaled 27 points to capture the 2019 Central Valley Conference men's team championship at Woodward Park in Fresno on Wednesday. Matison McCombs of Fresno City College won the women's race but Clovis Community College scored 23 points to edge FCC for the women team championship.

Ramirez ran 21:11.1 over the four-mile course to win the men's race. COS secured three of the top-five finishes on its way to the team title.

Clovis totaled 34 team points for second place and was led by Mohamed Saleh's runner-up finish. He cleared the course with a time of 21:25.1. Fresno City College was third in the final men's results with 77 points. Eliel Payan was FCC's top runner in seventh place with a time of 21:49.5.

McCombs won the women's race by nearly 11 seconds, crossing the finish line at 19:35.1. But Clovis had the next three finishers, led by Alyssa Freeman in second place with her time of 19:46.0.

Up next is the Northern California Regional Championships. The event is scheduled for Nov. 8 at El Toro Park in Salinas. Runners will be looking to qualify for the CCCAA State Championships on Nov. 23 at Woodward Park.
