Merced earns third straight conference title; Blue Devils (No. 5 seed), Sequoias (No. 11), Fresno City (No. 15) advance to postseason

Conference champion Merced College (23-5) has earned the CVC's top seed at No. 5 for the upcoming Northern California Regional Playoffs. The Blue Devils will be joined in the postseason by Sequoias (19-9, No. 11 seed), and Fresno City (16-11, No. 15 seed).

The three squads have received first-round byes and will play second-round games on Feb. 28-29. Winners move on to Round 3, scheduled for March 7. Two victories are need to advance to the CCCAA State Championships scheduled for March 12-15 at West Hills College Lemoore's Golden Eagle Arena.

With a perfect 12-0 record, Merced earned the conference championship outright after sharing the title with Sequoias the past two seasons. COS and Fresno City ended tied for second place at 8-4 with Reedley finishing fourth with a 7-5 record.

Allen Huddleston of Merced was named the CVC Coach of the Year after leading the Blue Devils to an undefeated mark in conference play. Merced sophomore guard continued her dominance of the CVC and was named Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Merced moved up two spots to No. 6 in the most recent CCCSIA state poll and is the lone CVC team ranked. In the final CCCWBCA Northern California poll, Merced is No. 3, followed by Sequoias at No. 10, and Fresno City in the No. 13 spot..
