LACC Men's Soccer back on track with win over College of the Sequoias
September 28, 2021
Playing on the road can sometimes be challenging, especially if the trip takes more than three hours, which is precisely what College of The Sequoias did to face the LA City Cubs on September 28th at Be True Field. Sequoias proved to be a tough opponent for the Cubs, but lost by a score of 2 - 1.
The season keeps getting more interesting for the Los Angeles City College men's soccer team as more players join its goal scoring list. A minute after conceding a goal to lose the lead, the cubs fought back and went up ahead on a goal by midfielder Douglas Perales. Perales has seen minimal action this season, but seized the opportunity and made an immediate impact to give his team the win.
It was a hard fought match and in the 25th minute Brian Perez of the Sequoias was given a yellow card after a hard tackle on midfielder Ryan Medina. A few minutes later it was Carlos Perez who was booked by the referee. LACC was not able to posses the ball in the midfield and struggled in the first half, but the game was a stalemate after 45 minutes.
In the second half, an inspired Jesus Marin rallied his team to victory with a volley shot from close range after a long throw in by Felipe Alvarez. In the 63rd minute goalkeeper Luis Villegas came off his line on a cross that found a Sequoia player to level the score.
The equalizing joy only lasted a minute. Felipe Alvarez sent a cross on another volley that sailed past the defense to find Douglas Perales inside the six yard box. Perales headed the ball past goalkeeper Zachary Ramirez to make the difference and win the game.
The next LACC game will be against Moorpark on Friday, October 1st at 5pm, as LACC will close the preseason schedule and will be tuning up for Conference play starting next week.
