Crush one win from state tourney after 1-0 win over Santa Rosa; host Folsom Lake on Saturday
CLOVIS – The Clovis Community College women's soccer team is just one win away from reaching the state championships for the first time in program history.
On Wednesday, the No. 2-seeded Crush got one step closer thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory over No. 7 Santa Rosa Junior College in a second-round game of the Northern California Regional Playoffs.
Jesi Garcia's goal in the 18th minute proved to the game-winner as the Crush defense and goalkeeper Carly Tynan posted their 13th shutout of the season.
Clovis, now 20-2-1 overall, will next host a third-round playoff game against No. 6 Folsom Lake College on Saturday (Nov. 25) at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to the 3C2A State Championships on Dec. 1 & 3 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
Ticket prices for Saturday's home playoff contest are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old. Fans are encouraged to pay with cash to get through the gates quickly.
Folsom Lake (15-3-3 overall) was a 3-1 winner over No. 14 Reedley College on Tuesday in its second-round game to advance.
Clovis and Folsom Lake will be meeting for the first time this season. But the Crush will be out for redemption after the Falcons eliminated Clovis from last year's playoffs. Facing off in the second round, Folsom Lake came out on top of a penalty-kick shootout 4-3 after 120 minutes of scoreless soccer between the two squads in Folsom.
