SANGER – Add two more Central Valley Conference titles for College of the Sequoias. On Saturday, both the Giants' men's and women's track and field teams took first place at the 2022 CVC Championships at Sanger High School's Tom Flores Stadium.
COS's Fernando Hernandez and Riley Beeman were named Male and Female Athletes of the Meet after leading the Giants' impressive performances.
Sequoias' men dominated on the track, winning 10 of 12 running events while taking first in 11 out of 20 overall. Hernandez won gold medals in three events as he was first in the 800 meters, 1500, and 5000.
COS totaled 153 points and was followed by Fresno City College in second with 94 points. The Rams were just as impressive in field events, winning 7 out of 8. Clovis Community College was third with 37 points, with Merced College in fourth with 4 points.
Beeman had a busy day, winning the 100-meter hurdles and javelin while also helping lead the 4x100-meter relay to a CVC title. She also placed in the long jump, pole vault, and 400 hurdles.
Sequoias' women totaled 126 points after winning 11 of 20 events overall. Clovis won 6 events and finished in second place with 69 points, followed by Fresno in third with 37 points, and Merced in fourth with 14 points.
