College of the Canyons struck first and eventually played to a 1-1 draw vs. visiting No. 5 Fresno City College on Tuesday.
Canyons (1-3-1) appeared to have some extra energy vs. the Rams after losing in their last two outings.
Fresno City (3-0-3) began the week as the No. 5 ranked program in the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) men's soccer statewide poll.
COC freshman Dylan Sullivan got things going when he found some space and was able to convert in the 32nd minute to put the Cougars ahead 1-0.
That score held true until the 62nd minute, when Fresno's attack finally netted a positive result with Melvin Benitez able to sneak one past Canyons goalkeeper Kian Bensend.
The Rams recorded 24 shots in the game compared to 11 from the Cougars. Fresno also earned seven corners compared to two from COC.
Bensend (1-3-1) looked strong in goal with a season-best 11 saves in the match to help neutralize Fresno's constant pressure.
After a three-game homestand, the Cougars will next travel to face Chaffey College at 4 p.m. on Friday.
