Thanks in part to the strength of the Central Valley Conference, the CVC’s top-three finishers have been seeded among the region’s top-five for the upcoming Northern California Playoffs.
With four games to play, Fresno City appears to be on its way to capturing its 19th consecutive CVC championship. FCC has won 11 straight games and is 10-0 in conference play.
Central Valley Conference play gets off to an amazing start with two of the state’s top teams facing off on opening night. Unbeaten Columbia is 14-0 to begin the season and travels to face 18-time defending CVC champion Fresno City (11-3) on Wednesday.
The CVC will be represented by three teams in the regional playoffs. Fresno City (25-3) earned the conference’s top seed at No. 2. Sequoias (20-8) was named the No. 5 seed and Columbia (21-7) checks in at the No. 10. Two wins are needed to advance to the CCCAA State Championships on March 14-17 at Ventura College.
At the halfway point of the conference schedule, Fresno City resides on top of the standings with a perfect 8-0 CVC record and has won 15 straight games. Porterville nearly snapped that streak, pushing FCC to a narrow 81-80 win on Jan. 19.

The 2017-18 Porterville College Men’s Basketball season got off to a rocky start as the Pirates opened up the San Jose City College Tip Off tournament on Thursday with a 101-94 loss to Monterey Peninsula College and followed that up with a narrow 79-73 defeat by Merced College on Friday.
