CCCAA Scholar-Athlete Awards list

Christopher Watkins of Clovis Community College men's cross country and Alejandra Fernandez from West Hills College Lemoore women's basketball were both recently named to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for the 2019-20 sports season.

The Central Valley Conference duo joins a list of 16 other outstanding individuals and 21 teams that will be recognized by the CCCAA with scholar awards at its annual convention that will be held virtually this year on March 31.

Watkins, a graduate of Clovis High School, compiled an impressive 3.94 grade point average during the school year. He also excelled on the course for the Crush, finishing in fifth place at the 2019 CVC Championships as well as earning a 38th-place showing at the CCCAA State Championships.

Originally out of Corcoran High School, Fernandez compiled a 3.79 GPA during her sophomore season for the Golden Eagles. On the basketball court, she averaged 11.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game on her way to second-team All-Central Valley Conference honors.

Fernandez received an Associates of Arts Degree in Administrative Justice and an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts-Social Science from WHCL. Currently, she is attending Hawaii Pacific University on a basketball scholarship and is in the middle of her junior season. After graduation she plans on obtaining her master's degree in criminal justice and will pursue a career in law enforcement.
