
Lemoore College has announced the hiring of Walter Parham as its new Director of Athletics. Parham is set to lead the recently-rebranded college's athletic department towards a new era. He brings experience at the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) level not only as an athletic administrator, but also as a head coach.
Parham was born in Detroit, was raised in the Los Angeles area, and has had a passion for making a difference in the lives of the young men and women in his community.
After obtaining his associate degree, Parham began his professional career working with at risk youth in many capacities, including mental health, residential treatment, correctional facilities and sexually trafficked minors. While working in the field, Parham completed his bachelor's degree in educational studies as well as his master's in education with an emphasis in family and community services.
Parham continued in his work in helping and mentoring young men and women when he started his coaching career as a varsity assistant coach at Ridgeview Academy in Colorado in 2008. He continued his coaching journey as a high school varsity coach in multiple states, including, California, Nebraska, Arizona and Nevada.
Parham then turned his attention to the California community college world in 2017. He got his start as a volunteer assistant coach at for the men's basketball team at Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree. Within five years, he had achieved served in multiple positions at the college, including head men's basketball coach, Credit for Prior Learning coordinator, adult education instructor, and athletic director.
Following Copper Mountain, Parham moved on to Feather River College in Quincy where he oversaw over 300 athletes and 10 programs as athletic director.
He began in the position at Lemoore College earlier this month. Parham has been given the opportunity to lead an athletic department full of potential and is excited to help the department achieve its goals.
Now a resident of Lemoore, Walter lives with his wife Allexa and their children.
