
TAFT, CA – On Tuesday, November 26, Taft College Women's Volleyball challenged Hartnell College. After getting a bye in the first round State Playoffs, the Cougars have been working hard all week for the second round.
Hartnell College came out firing in the first set taking an early lead 0-5 and led the entire first set. Hartnell was able to pull through with a win the first set 25-22. The Cougars were determined to win and continue to the third round of playoffs. They answered back quickly and won the next 3 sets 25-14, 25-12, and finally 25-18.
Seven Lady Cougars had digs in the double digits, and 5 had double doubles in this match. Grace Witcher had 26 kills, 10 being in the second set alone. Ariana Helbling dished out 33 assists and Sutton Thompson contributed 21 digs.
"I am unbelievably proud of every person on this team. Everyone on the team played a part in this victory. We had a slow start to the game, but as the match went on, we found our rhythm, leaned on each other, and proved that teamwork turns pressure into victory.
As we approach Thanksgiving, I think it's very fitting to thank our staff, administration, fans and community for their support this season. We are so grateful to our incredible fans for their unwavering support all year. Their energy and belief in us made every moment unforgettable and made all the difference in us protecting our home court," Taft Head Women's Volleyball Coach Mallori Rossi said.
The Lady Cougars will be on the road on Saturday, November 30 for the 3rd and final round of playoffs against #4 seed Sierra College.
