Broughton's Gem Against Sequoias Ends Cuesta's Slide, 9-0

Cuesta Righthander Ben Broughton (pict) carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning, before settling for a one-hit, shutout, 9-0, over #10 Sequoias.  The visiting Giants used a pair of Cuesta errors to put two runners in scoring position during their first at-bat, but Broughton got out of the jam and went on a roll.  Cuesta scored four runs in the 1st inning and three more in the 2nd to give Broughton some room to work and he sent down in order the next nine Giants.  Only one Sequoias player reached second base the rest of the game and Outfielder Mike McKiernan's single through the left side of the infield in the 7th inning, which was the only hit of the game for Sequoias, was immediately erased on an inning ending double play.  On offense, the Cougars cruised off their seven-run burst in the first two innings, before adding runs in both the 6th and 7th frames.  Centerfielder Kayne Ross (pict) led all batters with three hits on the day and was one of five Cuesta Batsmen to enjoy a multi-hit game.  First Baseman Holden Cumiskey also did his part by scoring once and driving in a game-high three RBI.  The victory over the Giants snapped a six-game losing streak for the Cougars and evened their series with the Giants.

Cuesta is 2-7 on the season and completes its three-game series against Sequoias tomorrow (1 PM) in SLO.
