The Giants entered the week 5-3. They had to compete in 5 road games from Thursday to Monday. The opened up with Diablo Valley on Thursday, February 15 with a doubleheader. In the first game of the series, their offensive standouts included Emily Ibarra (Redwood HS), Anela Hernandez (Waialua, HI), and Isela Villarreal (Dinuba HS) as they won 9-0. Ibarra provided a RBI triple, Hernandez went 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs, and Villareal contributed with a triple and 2 RBIs. Bailee Bustos (Mission Oak HS) had a great performance on the mound as she tosses a complete game shutout, which included 9 strikeouts. In the second game of the series, the Giants continued to perform as they won 14-0 behind Bustos, Skye Gomez (Corona, CA), and Grace Chojnacki (Mission Oak HS). Bustos went 4-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs and Gomez went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Chojnacki provided a great offensive and pitching performance as she went 2-for-4 at the plate including 3 RBIs and pitched a no-hitter including 7 strikeouts.
On Friday, the Giants traveled to San Mateo and lost 8-0. Emily Ibarra went 1-for-4 with a single. On Monday, the Giants played a doubleheader with Monterey Peninsula. The first game of the series, the Giants won 10-7 behind the offense of Ibarra, Villareal, and Chojnacki. Ibarra contributed with a double, a triple, and 3 RBIs, Villareal provided 2 hits and 2 RBIs, while Chojnacki had 2 RBIs and hit her first solo HR. On the second game of the doubleheader, the Giants won 4-2. They had contributions from Bustos and Chojnacki; Bustos had 1 RBI and scored 2 runs as Chojnacki went 1-for-2 at the plate with 2 RBIs and pitched a complete game including 4 strikeouts.
The Giants will now host a homestand this week, which starts on Thursday, February 22 as they take on Bakersfield in a doubleheader, which starts at 11 am. They will host doubleheader against Ohlone on Saturday, February 24, which starts at 12 pm.
