Palomar College Women’s Basketball Concludes Strong Season in 3C2A Elite Eight

WALNUT, CA (3/14/2025) --  The Palomar College women's basketball team's remarkable season came to a close in the 3C2A State Championship quarterfinals, where they battled top-seeded College of the Sequoias in a tightly contested matchup. Despite a strong effort, the Comets fell 77-71 at Mt. San Antonio College, finishing their season with an impressive 24-7 record.

This marked Palomar's sixth Elite Eight appearance since 2017, a testament to the program's consistency and excellence under head coach Leigh Marshall. The Comets put forth a valiant effort against an undefeated Sequoias team, leading after the first quarter and staying competitive throughout the contest.

Leading the charge for Palomar was Nevaeh Mageo, who delivered a team-high 16 points, including four three-pointers, while adding two rebounds and a block. Kylee Trujillo followed closely with 15 points, knocking down four of her eight attempts from beyond the arc. Brooke Quintana contributed across the board with 13 points, six assists, and four rebounds, providing a steady presence on the court.

Palomar demonstrated its offensive versatility, connecting on 12 three-pointers and maintaining a solid 41.4% shooting percentage from long range. The Comets also remained perfect at the free-throw line, hitting all seven of their attempts.

Despite their strong showing, Palomar struggled to overcome Sequoias' rebounding advantage (46-36) and points off turnovers (16-9). A late push in the fourth quarter wasn't enough to erase the deficit, as Sequoias held on to advance.

While the season ends just short of a Final Four appearance, the Comets once again proved themselves as one of the top programs in California. With a history of deep postseason runs, Palomar remains a force in the 3C2A and will look to build on this success next season.
