
COS Extends CVC Win Streak With Convincing Wins at Reedley
Reedley, CA – The No. 14 College of the Sequoias softball team (25-9, 9-2 CVC) delivered a dominant performance in a Central Valley Conference doubleheader at Reedley College, taking game one 10-2 and cruising to a 7-2 victory in game two.
Game 1: COS 10, Reedley 2
College of the Sequoias exploded for seven runs in the first inning, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Nayzeth Gonzalez (Hanford HS) had a monster outing, going 3-for-5 with 5 RBIs, including a two-run single in the first, a two-run single in the third, and an RBI double in the seventh.
Madisyn Benedict (Hanford HS) added a 3-for-4 day with 2 RBIs, while Taylor Hastin (Tulare Union HS) and Emilee Santos (Corcoran HS) each contributed RBI hits.
Grace Chojnacki (Mission Oak HS) tossed a complete game, allowing just two hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out five to pick up the win.
Game 2: COS 7, Reedley 2
In the second game, the Giants stayed hot at the plate with 14 hits, fueled by home runs from Taylor Hastin (Tulare Union HS) and Shelby Somavia (Redwood HS). Hastin hit a three-run blast in the first inning and added two more hits and three RBIs. Taylor Hastin is now tied for 7th in the state in homeruns with 7, and 2nd in the state in RBIs with 45 (1st in the North). While Somavia launched a three-run homer in the third.
Grace Chojnacki (Mission Oak HS) and Emilee Santos (Corcoran HS) each collected two hits, and Isabella Ortega (Dinuba HS) added an RBI double.
Hastin went the distance in the circle, allowing just three hits and striking out six over seven innings to earn her 14th win of the season.
On Deck
COS will travel to Taft College on Tuesday, April 8, for a conference doubleheader at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The Giants return home on Thursday, April 10, to host West Hills Coalinga at 12:00 PM.
