Athletic competition finally made its way back to the Clovis Community College campus on Friday. Playing its first game since the 2019 season, Clovis suffered a 2-0 loss to visiting Hartnell College in both teams' 2021 opener.
Hartnell got a goal in the 26th minute from Rafael Mendoza and sealed the victory late in the second half with a 90th minute tally from Alexsis Ortiz.
Clovis couldn't capitalize on its chances, having all four of its shots on goal stopped by Hartnell keeper Santiago Cervantes. Freshman goalkeeper Eric Canela posted two saves for the Crush.
The Crush (0-1) will look to secure their first win of the season when they return to action on Tuesday (Aug. 31) at 4 p.m. with a game at Folsom Lake College.
