CLOVIS – The Clovis Community College men's soccer team won for the second time in two games, this time on its home field, as the Crush defeated visiting Folsom Lake College by a final score of 2-1 on Tuesday.
Clovis took control of the match early, thanks to goal in ninth minute by freshman Julio Hernandez of the assist from freshman Jean Paul Santos Cuevas.
The two squads would battle for the remainder of the opening half and the game remained 1-0 all the way until the 72nd minute when the Crush added an insurance goal. Freshman Michaelaaron Ortez fed sophomore Julio Moran for his first goal of the season that would prove to be huge.
Leading 2-0, Clovis appeared to be on its way to an easy victory. But in the 78th minute, Folsom Lake finally got on the scoreboard to make things interesting. The Crush defense and freshman goalkeeper Luis Segura kept the Falcons contained and held on for the win.
Clovis improved to 2-0 and has outscored its opponents by a 7-1 margin so far. The Crush will look to keep the momentum going on Friday (Sep. 2) when they host Cabrillo College in a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
