Coalinga College Softball Shines in a Doubleheader Against Shasta College

On Wednesday, Coalinga College Softball demonstrated both resilience and skill in a thrilling doubleheader against Shasta College.

In the first game, the Falcons jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Esme Zuniga Romero singled to score a run and Bryton Loflin's double added two more. The momentum continued in the second inning with Susana Gonzalez drawing a walk that brought in another run. The team's aggressive baserunning was evident as they stole a total of seven bases, including three by Alex McDanell. Pitcher Jenessa Sanchez delivered a strong performance over seven innings—allowing only five hits, four runs (two earned), with seven strikeouts—to secure a 6-4 victory.

The second game turned into a nail-biter in a low-scoring affair. Shasta College put two runs on the board early with a double by Bailey Weibling and a single by Joci Bertain in the top of the second and third innings, respectively. The Falcons battled back when Bryton Loflin's single in the bottom of the third tied the game at two. Despite a solid start by Alexis Espinoza in the circle, who recorded 12 outs over four innings, the bullpen could not keep the momentum as Jenessa Sanchez, taking the loss over three innings, allowed the decisive run in a 3-2 defeat. Loflin once again led the offense with two RBIs, underlining her importance in the lineup, while Niliah Gruver and Alex McDanell provided additional key hits. Notably, the team's defensive focus was evident as they committed no errors, with Loflin making the most plays in the field with five chances.

Looking ahead, Coalinga College Softball will take their competitive spirit on the road for their next game at Allan Hancock College on Thursday.
