Volleyball Wins Over Columbia

Two winless community college volleyball teams met in Columbia on the night of Oct. 12. Reedley College made the trip with six players, no subs.

They came home with a victory.

Coach Mariah Roby Stewart's Tigers lost the first two games but won the next three as they recorded a 20-25, 12-25, 25-16, 25-16, 16-14 victory over Columbia.

In their first match in the remodeled Reedley College gym (Paul Mitchell Court) on Friday night, the Lady Tigers fell to 1-9 in Central Valley Conference play with a 25-19, 25-12, 25-13 loss to Merced College.

Reedley was scheduled to play host to first-place and defending state champion Fresno City College on Oct. 19 before a Friday night home match with West Hills Lemoore. Results were not available from a Monday night match at West Hills Coalinga.

All of Reedley's second-round conference matches will be at home. The Tigers had been forced to practice at the Reedley Community Center and play matches as the work to put a new roof and gym floor in their own gym continued.

In Columbia, a kill by Nadia Rosenfeld put an end to the match, which took two hours to complete. Yasmin Delarosa led Reedley with 12 kills while Rosenfeld finished with 11 and Dakota Vermilya had eight. Setter Vanessa Rodriguez has 34 assists. Erica Hafkey and Katelyn Hough contributed to the victory.
