TAFT, CA – In a thrilling contest, Taft College faced off against Fresno City College on October 18, seeking to finish the week undefeated after a narrow 1-0 victory over West Hills Lemoore College earlier in the week. However, the match started off challenging for Taft, as they fell behind 1-0 in the 16th minute. Despite their struggles, Taft's determination shone through as they fought to regain control.
After conceding a penalty that extended Fresno's lead to 2-0, Taft displayed their energy, and Emiliano Gonzalez found the net just before halftime, bringing the score to 2-1.
Entering the second half, Taft displayed a renewed mentality, pushing aggressively to equalize. Both teams exchanged opportunities, but neither could convert until the match entered extra time. In a moment of brilliance, Arturo Reyes delivered a perfectly timed pass to Jorge (Coco) Casteneda, who finished with perfect precision in the 96th minute, equalizing the match at 2-2.
Although Taft aimed for a victory, their resilient performance secured an undefeated week, setting a solid foundation as they prepared for their next challenge.
Taft College will enter the next round of conference as first place holders and will work to contain that.
