#12 Giants Rolls Past Coalinga in 5-0 Victory

VISALIA, Calif. – The No. 12-ranked College of the Sequoias softball team (28-9, 13-2 CVC) continued its strong conference play with a 5-0 shutout victory over Coalinga College (9-21, 2-10 CVC) on Thursday afternoon at the COS Softball Complex.
Grace Chojnacki (Mission Oak HS) was dominant on both sides of the ball, tossing a two-hit shutout while also driving in three runs to lead the Giants. She struck out four and faced just 25 batters over seven innings without allowing a walk or an error behind her.
The Giants opened the scoring in the second inning when Madison Lujan (Hanford HS) delivered an RBI single to left center to score Emilee Santos (Corcoran HS). One inning later, Nayzeth Gonzalez (Hanford HS) singled and stole second, setting up Chojnacki's RBI double to left field to make it 2-0.
COS broke it open with a three-run fourth inning. Madisyn Benedict (Hanford HS) drove in Santos with a single to center, and two batters later, Chojnacki came through again with a two-run single, scoring both Benedict and Skye Gomez (El Diamante HS).
The Giants collected 10 hits overall and played clean defense behind Chojnacki, not committing a single error. Gonzalez added two hits and stole two bases, while Santos also swiped a bag and scored twice.
"Grace continues to lead us with her consistency and poise," head coach Cori Janelli said. "But what I'm most proud of is how the entire team executed today—solid defense, smart baserunning, and quality at-bats. Everyone played a role in this win, and that's the kind of complete team effort we need down the stretch."
