
Cuesta Women's Basketball was pushed into overtime by the visiting Reedley Tigers, but still managed to pull out the victory, 99-95. The two teams played near even in the first half, but the 19th-ranked Cougars still entered the intermission with the lead, 52-47. In the third quarter the Cougars extended their lead and entered the fourth quarter up by a dozen points, 79-67, however the visiting Tigers were not ready to concede. The Bengal's outscored Cuesta in the fourth quarter, 22-10 and sent the game into overtime. Cuesta held their court during extra time and their 10-6 margin sealed the victory, 99-95. The Cougars also improved their overall record to 9-4 on the season.
The win over the Tigers produced the 7th highest scoring game in Cuesta history, while Guards Reese Pasternik and Bella Musolff (pict) joined Freshman Forward Kaylee Batten as they each posted stellar nights in the victory by each scoring, at least, 20 points in the contest. Batten led the way with a game-high 26 points, while completing a double-double with 19 rebounds, which ties her for 9th all time at Cuesta. Pasternik scored 19 points in the game and is just 107 points off Miriam Zabinsky (2013-14) school record of 838 career points. Musolff scored a career-high 22 points, while still dishing out seven assists. Her 178 assists for her career rank 6th all time, but she will have to force feed her teammates a lot of shots to catch Kelly McKay (1997-98), who holds the record with an even 300 dishes, while she is still 88 ahead of the next person on the list.
The Cougars are 10-6 on the season but riding a six-game winning streak this month with two games left to play. The Cougars are back in action this Friday and Saturday, when the travel to the Bay Area for back-to-back games against San Jose City on Friday (4 PM) and Skyline, in San Bruno, on Saturday (1 PM). The Cougars first game in the New Year shall be in Santa Maria against local rival Allan Hancock for their 2025 Western State Conference Opener on January 11 (1 PM). The Cougars are scheduled to be back home to host Moorpark for another WSC contest on January 15 (5 PM).
