PORTERVILLE – The 2022 Porterville College softball season came to a close following the Pirates split of a Central Valley Conference doubleheader with visiting College of the Sequoias on Thursday.

PC took the opening game by a final score of 5-1 and nearly completed a doubleheader sweep, but a seventh-inning rally came up just short resulting in a 10-9 loss in the finale.

A four-run rally in the bottom of the third inning proved to be the difference for the Pirates in Game 1. Ally Boyd smacked an RBI double and Cheyenne Ausborn drove in a pair with a single to give Porterville a 4-0 lead.

Mo Mosley went 1 for 2 and walked twice on her way to scoring two runs. She also stole three bases.

Boyd picked up the win in the circle, tossing a complete game. She allowed just one run and four hits while striking out six.

Game 2 saw COS jump out to a big lead early. The Giants led 5-1 in the third and were up 10-5 after six innings.

Down by five runs, PC scored four times in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't finish off the comeback.

The Pirates totaled 14 hits in the contest and got a big game offensively from Cienna Enriquez. She went 4 for 5 with 2 RBI. Hailee Smutz (2 for 5, 2 runs) drove in a pair of runs while Boyd (2 for 4, RBI) and Madelynn Pierce (2 for 4, run, RBI) each contributed two hits.

Boyd took the loss in the finale, going the distance while allowing 10 runs (nine earned) and 15 hits.

Porterville wrapped up the season with a 12-24 overall record and finished tied for fourth place in the final Central Valley Conference standings at 5-10.
