COS Falls in Extra-Inning Battle Against Allan Hancock, 10-9
SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias baseball team fought back multiple times but fell just short in a 10-9 extra-inning loss to Allan Hancock on Tuesday afternoon.
The game featured a combined 22 runs and 26 hits, with both teams trading leads before Hancock walked it off in the 10th inning.
College of the Sequoias (5-3) wasted no time getting on the board as Alex Lopez (Golden West HS) hit a two-run homer in the top of the first, scoring Zach Milhous (Monache HS) for an early 2-0 lead. Hancock responded with a run in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 1.
In the third, Walker Selley (Bermuda) drove in Milhous on a sacrifice fly, and Ned Ceklic (Alberta) added an RBI single, giving the Giants a 4-1 advantage. However, Hancock answered with two runs of its own to make it 4-3.
The Giants pushed another run across in the fifth with another Selley sacrifice fly, but gave up runs in the bottom of the sixth. A bases-loaded walk and a bases-clearing triple from Cesar Garcia gave Hancock five runs in the inning, flipping the lead to 9-5.
COS refused to go down without a fight. In the seventh, Ceklic was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Diego Sanchez (Bakersfield Christian HS) grounded into a double play to plate another run, closing the gap to 9-7.
In the eighth, Aiden Medina (Hoover HS) doubled home Noe Salazar (Kerman HS), and Milhous followed with a game-tying RBI double, bringing the score to 9-9.
After a scoreless ninth, Hancock walked it off in the bottom of the tenth when Josue Garcia singled up the middle to drive in the winning run.
Milhous had a standout day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored, while Lopez finished 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs.
On the mound, Sam Reynolds (Bullard HS) started for Sequoias, throwing four innings while allowing three runs. Romeo Lopez (Hanford HS) tossed two scoreless innings in relief, while Hudson Groh (Liberty HS, Madera, CA) was tagged with the loss after allowing the game-winning hit in the tenth.
