MERCED – The 2025 College of San Mateo softball season got off to a solid start as the No. 4 state-ranked Bulldogs cruised to a pair of big five-inning, mercy rule wins at Merced College on Friday.
CSM picked up a 14-0 victory in Game 1 and closed the doubleheader sweep with a 18-0 rout shortly after.
Freshman Hannah Ames (pictured) made her presence felt in her CSM debut, going a combined 4 for 5 with 3 home runs and 5 RBI to lead the Bulldogs' offense. Jessica Gutierrez (3 for 9, 4 RBI), Keithleen Gonzalez (2 for 7, 2B, 4 RBI), and Emma Kinder (4 for 7, 3 2B, 3 RBI) all contributed to the wins at the plate.
The Bulldogs were able to throw five different pitchers over the two games. Opening-game starting pitcher Nohemi Livingston struck out 4 over 4 scoreless innings while Game 2 starter Nia Mapa had 3 strikeouts over 3 scoreless frames.
San Mateo, now 2-0, is back in action next Saturday (Feb. 8) for its home opener. The Bulldogs are set to host Sierra College in a doubleheader, starting at 10 a.m.
