
Game 1
Kate Moore collected three hits in four at bats, but Taft College lost to San Diego City College 12-6 on Saturday. Moore singled in the first inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
San Diego City got on the board in the top of the first inning after Shyann Beddow doubled, scoring one run, and Savannah Turner homered to right field, scoring two runs.
Taft Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a double by Laie Keahi, a single by Mischa Mott, and a double by Hanna Hendricks.
A double by Klarissa Soto gave San Diego the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fourth.
The Knights scored two runs in the top of the fifth on a home run to left field by Madison Stephensen.
Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a ground out by Hadlie Wilson, and a double by Cadence Mizner.
San Diego City flipped the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring six runs on seven hits to take the lead, 12-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Liese Gutterrez on the sixth pitch of the at-bat that drove in two.
Jada Mizner led things off in the circle for Taft. The pitcher surrendered 13 hits and 10 runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking three. Lexi Lopex led things off in the circle for San Diego. The hurler gave up nine hits and six runs (five earned) over seven innings, striking out none and walking one.
Cougars piled up 11 hits in the game. Wilson led the team with two runs batted in. Hendricks, Keahi, Mizner, and Mott each collected multiple hits for the Cougars. The black and gold ran wild on the base paths, accumulating three stolen bases for the game. Cougars turned one double play in the game.
San Diego tallied 17 hits in the game. Leadoff hitter Syd Letzing led the Knights with four hits in five at bats. Turner, Stephensen, Soto, Cali De La Rosa, Beddow, and Gutterrez each drove in two runs for the Knights. Nikki Rocha and Irina Lainez each collected multiple hits for San Diego City. Letzing stole two bases. San Diego ran wild on the base paths, tallying three stolen bases for the game.
Game 2
Both teams were strong in the circle on Saturday, but Taft defeated San Diego city 3-0. Ava Heitman started the game for the Cougars and recorded 21 outs.
The Cougars got on the board in the first inning after Laie Keahi singled, scoring one run.
Heitman earned the win for Taft. The pitcher surrendered three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one. Hadley Phipps took the loss for San Diego City. The pitcher went two innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out none and walking none. Celi Teran started in the circle for San Diego City. The pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs over four innings, striking out two and walking none.
Number nine hitter, Isabella Navarro, showed the depth of Cougars' lineup, by leading them with two hits in two at bats. Hanna Hendricks led the Cougars with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day.
Cali De La Rosa, Shyann Beddow, and Irina Lainez each collected one hit for the Knights. San Diego City didn't commit a single error in the field. Madison Dagnino had the most chances in the field with eight.
