FRESNO, CA – The SBCC women's soccer team suffered defeat for the first time in five games this season, falling at Fresno 1-0.

The Vaqueros are now 1-1-3 on the year, while the Rams earned their first win to move to 1-1-1.

"A tough battle was played at Fresno as our women's soccer team came in with the mindset to compete and battle," assistant coach Alex Zermeno said. "The ladies played a very good defensive gameplan, holding the rams to 0-0 until the 79th min. Everyone that played gave 100 percent effort and as a coaching staff we can only be proud of their efforts. It was an unfortunate result, when we believed we deserved to get something from the game."

The only goal in the game was scored by Fresno's Hannah Martin on an assist by Gianna McLain, breaking the 0-0 tie late. The Vaqueros had 11 shots as a team, including seven in the second half as they forced nine saves from goalkeeper Audrey Haman.

Reigning WSC-North Goalkeeper of the Year Analea Pule was outstanding once again, racking up a season-best nine saves.

Santa Barbara will have a week off before its next game at Santa Monica at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
