Women's Hoops takes 2nd at the Conoco/Phillips Tourney

Cuesta Women's Basketball fell to #19 West Hills-Lemoore, 71-64, in the championship game of the 37th Conoco/Phillips Women's Basketball Classic at Cuesta College.  The Cougars badgered the Golden Eagles all through the first half, but Lemoore pulled away in the waning moments of the second quarter and took a ten-point lead into the intermission.  In the second half, Cuesta Freshmen Julia Carney (SLO HS) and Hailie Abel (Paso Robles HS) brought Cuesta back into contention with Lemoore as the duo combined for 24 of the Cougars' 36 points over the last two quarters.  Abel ended the game with a double-double, which included team-highs with both 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Carney scored 16 points.  Carney also joined Freshmen Guard Olivia Missler (SLO HS), who added 15 and a team-high six assists in the title game, on the all-Conoco/Phillips Team.  Golden Eagles' Guard Sade Booker-Honeycutt was named the Most Valuable Player of the 37th ConocoPhillips Invitational, after leading West Hills-Lemoore to the title with a 34-point performance.  She was joined on the all-Conoco/Phillips Team by teammates Jada Heights and Audrey Gonzalez-Alvarez, as well as Mercy Montgomery from Taft and Leslie Jauregui of Hartnell.  Cuesta is 3-4 on the year.

The Cougars travel to Santa Maria next weekend for the Allan Hancock Crossover.  On Friday (5 PM) they play Taft for the third time this season and on Saturday (1 PM) they face LA Southwest.  Cuesta is back home on December 15 to host Porterville at 6 PM.
