CVC champion Sequoias named No. 3 seed for playoffs, No. 4 Columbia, No. 12 Porterville also qualify

The Central Valley Conference will be represented by three teams in the upcoming Northern California Regional Playoffs. The tournament begins on Tuesday (Mar. 1) with second-round games scheduled for Thursday (Mar. 3).

Conference champion College of the Sequoias earned the CVC's top seed at No. 3 for the playoffs. The Giants went an impressive 13-1 to cruise to the conference title. They've won 11 straight games entering the postseason and are 24-4 overall.

COS will host the winner of No. 14 College of the Redwoods (20-5) and No. 19 Diablo Valley College (14-14) in a second-round game in Visalia on Thursday night.

Second-place Porterville College put together a tremendous first season under new head coach Amaurys Fermin. The Pirates went 10-4 in the CVC and closed out the regular season on an eight-game winning streak.

Porterville, 20-7 overall, received the No. 12 seed and travels to face No. 5 Las Positas College in Livermore on Thursday in Round 2 contest.  The Pirates are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2003.

Columbia started the season strong with a 14-0 non-conference record but ended in third place in the Central Valley Conference at 9-5.

With a 23-5 overall record, Columbia was rewarded with the No. 4 seed for the playoffs. The Claim Jumpers will play host to No. 13 San Joaquin Delta College (17-10) in a second-round game on Thursday.

Two wins are needed by these squads to advance to the CCCAA State Championships. The state tournament is being hosted by West Hills College Lemoore and will be played at Golden Eagle Arena.
