Fresno City, Taft share Central Valley Conference championship; 5 of 6 CVC schools advance to NorCal Playoffs

For the first time since 2017, Fresno City College and Taft College will share the Central Valley Conference men's soccer championship. Both teams ended their conference schedules with identical 7-1-2 records.

For the Rams, it marked their sixth CVC title over the past seven seasons (2022, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015) while Taft captured its fifth conference championship over the past 10 years. The Cougars and Rams were also co-champions in 2017 and 2015 while Taft captured outright titles in 2014 and 2013.

Merced College finished third in the final 2022 CVC standings not far behind at 6-1-3. The Blue Devils were followed by College of the Sequoias (3-5-2), Clovis Community College (2-7-1), and West Hills College Lemoore (0-10-0).

Five of the Central Valley Conference's six programs advanced to the Northern California Regional Playoffs that are set to begin on Wednesday (Nov. 16) with opening-round games. | NORCAL PLAYOFFS BRACKET

With an overall record of 15-2-4, Fresno City received the No. 1 seed for the NorCal Playoffs. Taft is the No. 2 seed with a strong 13-3-3 mark with Merced joining them in the top 5, seeded fifth with a 14-3-3 record.

Sequoias (10-7-4) was named the No. 12 seed along with Clovis (9-9-2) earning the No. 17 seed.

Fresno, Taft, and Merced all received first-round byes and await their second-round opponents for games on Saturday (Nov. 19).  On Wednesday, COS hosts No. 21 Cañada College while Clovis travels to No. 16 Folsom Lake College in their first-round playoff games.

Teams will be looking to advance to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships on Dec. 2 & 4 at American River College in Sacramento.
