Reedley finishes third at 3C2A State Championships

Going into final round on Nov. 14, Reedley College was tied for first with old rival Modesto Junior College, Reedley qualified for the state finals with a second place finish at the Nor Cal finals in Woodland Nov. 6-7. Modesto won the event with a team score of 650, 18 shots ahead .of the Tigers' 668.

Darkness settled in before 18 golfers from College of the Canyons; Sierra  and Fullerton could finish their final first round holes the next day on Tuesday, according to veteran Tiger head coach Scott Stark. Reedley was scheduled to tee off at 10:10 am.

Freshman Ethel Asequia (Clovis East), who won the Nor Cal title by eight strokes, was tied for medalist honors in Paso Robles, is tied with those who completed play with a 77. Meghan Hansen (Reedley) 87 and (175), Ava Arredondo 88 and (165) good for fourth place overall. Gabrielle Jasso ([Merced81 and {180} and Melanie Davila {Reedley} 82 and {200).

However, on day-two, the experienced Canyons Team and SoCal Champ Mt. San Antonio College teams turned in team scores that improved 20 and 24 strokes respectively from the first day to finish first and second place.  College of the Canyons turned in a day two score of 320 for a total of 660 with Mt. SAC edging out the TIgers by a stroke at 674.  

The Tigers ended tied with Modesto JC at 675, but won the tie-breaker with a card-off on the fifth scorer (M. Davila @ 85) to take the 3rd place honors for the 2023 3C2A State Championship at Hunter Ranch Golf Club in Paso Robles.  

Ethel Asequia was also named to the ALL-State Team with the 5th best score of 155.   Coach Stark was elated for the team and stated that, "they steadily improved all year so it was nice to see them edge out the competition to get on the winners platform".
