Fresno rolls to sweep of Merced to take CVC standings lead

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno City volleyball team (14-3; 7-0) picked up its 12th consecutive victory, and remains undefeated in Central Valley Conference play, defeating Merced JC (9-1; 6-1) 3-0 at home Wednesday night.  The Rams' victory came by set scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-7.  The win gives Fresno City sole possession of first place in the CVC, and hands Merced JC their first loss of the season, dropping them into a tie with Cerro Coso for second place in conference.

Mia Corripo led the Rams with 10 kills ,while Katie Emmerling and Keri Leake recorded nine kills and eight kills respectively, as Fresno City's balanced attack led them past a talented Merced JC team who entered Wednesday night's contest undefeated.  Emmerling only had one error, recording a .615 kill percentage in the three set match.

Emmerling also recorded a team-high 20 assists on the night, while Jenna Guinn provided 16 assists of her own, to aid the Rams offensive attack.  Destiny Vang recorded a team-high five service aces, while Emmerling and Kenidi MacDonald helped pace the defense with 12 digs a piece.  Vang also contributed 10 digs in the Rams winning effort.

Fresno City, who were coming off their 100th consecutive Central Valley Conference match victory last week versus Columbia, have now won 21 consecutive sets.  They'll look to remain perfect in CVC play when they take to the road for their next two matches, taking on West Hills Lemoore (1-7; 0-7) this Friday, before opening next week at Cerro Coso (10-3; 6-1).  Their next home match is scheduled for next Friday against visiting West Hills Coalinga.
