Fresno beats West Hills Coalinga to take over sole possession of first in CVC volleyball standings

CENTRAL VALLEY CONFERENCE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL REPORT

Fresno City College continued its dominance of Central Valley Conference women's volleyball by handing upstart West Hills College Coalinga its first conference loss of the season, 3-1 on Wednesday in Coalinga.

The 25-19, 25-14, 21-25, 25-19 win by the Rams extended their Central Valley Conference winning streak to an amazing 168 straight matches. FCC's Druegan Davis had an impressive all-around night in the victory, posting 14 kills, 13 digs, 21 assists, and 6 blocks.

Fresno sits on top of the conference standings at 8-0. The Rams are off to another terrific start, currently 16-4 overall and ranked No. 6 in this week's CCCWVCA state poll.

West Hills Coalinga started the season slow but had won its first seven CVC matches before Wednesday's defeat. The Falcons currently hold second place at 7-1 and are 9-7 overall.

Taft (12-8) and Sequoias (8-12) sit tied for third place with 5-3 conference records, followed by Porterville (10-11) and Merced (7-8) knotted up in fifth at 4-4. Reedley (2-6 CVC, 3-10), West Hills Lemoore (1-7, 3-14), and Columbia (0-8, 0-12) round out the standings.

Featured Student-Athlete: Kailee Wakatake, Taft College
Wakatake, a sophomore libero originally from Honolulu, Hawaii (Kalani HS), currently leads the state in digs with 475 and digs per set average at 6.60. She had a season-high 39 digs in a five-set win over Sequoias and followed that with 32 digs in a 3-1 victory at Porterville.

Prior to those matches, Wakatake was honored as the CCCWVCA Player of the Week for Week 3.
