Roadrunners Top Fresno in Tournament Opener

Rocklin, Calif. - The Butte women's basketball team opened up the Sasha Brown Classic, hosted by Sierra College, with a 71-56 win over Fresno on Thursday afternoon.

Despite a power outage in the fourth quarter, Butte held on to edge Fresno, 12-11 in the final 10 minutes after carrying a 35-26 lead into halftime. The Roadrunners built up a 15-point lead before the power cut off.

Sophomore Meghan Weinrich racked up a game-high 28 points with 18 boards. Sophomore Sanaya Shrader backed her up with 15 rebounds of her own.

Four Roadrunners earned eight points each with sophomore Cassidy King tallying five assists and freshman Sarah Tait counting four steals.

Butte (7-0) continues play in the Sasha Brown Classic, facing San Francisco on Friday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m.
