With identical 11-5 overall records, Merced and Sequoias once again appear to be the teams to beat as Central Valley Conference play gets underway this week. The two squads have shared the CVC title the last two seasons. Fresno City is one game above .500 at 8-7.

Merced (No. 10) and Sequoias (No. 18) are the lone CVC teams ranked in the latest (Dec. 30) California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA) State Poll. In the Northern California rankings, Merced is No. 2, followed by COS at No. 7, and Fresno in the No. 9 spot.
